Lake Effect and Convergence Snow For The Champlain Valley and Western Slopes This Evening

Champlain Valley Weather Discussion:
Champlain Valley Weather has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Vermont side of the Champlain Valley. Western Franklin, Western Addison, Grand Isle, and Chittenden Counties. Total snow accumulations from earlier this afternoon, to midnight will range from 3-7 inches.

Currently light to occasionally moderate, and even occasionally heavy snow is falling across much of the Chaplain Valley, and Western slopes of the Green mountains. This is due to moisture streaming down from Canada, and being funneled through the Champlain Valley, and also over the open portions of lake Champlain where additional moisture is being added to the atmosphere. Snow has currently been the heaviest across the Champlain Valley, with the majority of any upslope enhancement over the Western slopes of Chittenden County. Snow should continue, but tapper off by midnight. With already 1.5 - 3 inches of snow on the ground from around noon today until now, and with an additional 1.5 - 4 inches of snow possible, this will push totals into the 3-7 inch range by midnight. Very localized higher amounts to 7 inches could occur where the heaviest snow persists. Currently the heaviest snow is falling just to the Northwest of middlebury, and another area of heavier snow across Central Chittenden county.

The areas most likely to see the 3-7 inch total accumulations are areas from Georgia, and Fletcher VT down to Weybridge and New Haven, VT, and also in the Western slopes of the Green mountain in Chittenden County. Stay tuned for any further updates.
