Champlain Valley Weather Discussion:
Things are somewhat on track, snow was delayed though this morning, and didnt last as long as it was supposed too. Eitherway it deposited a widespread 2-5 inches of snow across much of the region. The heaviest amounts along thw western slopes of the green mountains with 5.7 inches in North Underhill, with 5 inches in both Fairfax, and Cambridge.
More snow, albeit light has been developing with an upslope signature to it, with the heaviest radar reflections along the western slopes of the green mountains. With all this in mind, Champlain Valley Weather Suggested alerts will remain as is from last night, but instead of ending this evening, it will end Tuesday Afternoon. A Winter Storm Warning will remain in place for the western slopes of the green mountain with 5-9 inches expected with isolated amounts in the 6-12 inch range in areas such as Jay Peak, Camels Hump, Mt. Mansfield, and the Stowe ski area. The rest of the area remains under a Winter Weather Advisory for 3-6 inches of total snow accumulation by Tuesday afternoon.
I know this is a very marginal event, and by true standards only have a Winter Weather Advisory in place for the Western slopes of the Green mountains. But with snow squalls expected later tonight, into Tuesday late morning, along with strong winds in the 15-25MPH range with gusts up into the 35-45MPH range, I will continue everything as is. I feel travel will once again become very hazardous, especially during the morning commute tomorrow. Winds will help cause reduced visibilities in blowing and drifting snow. Use caution if out on the roads Tuesday morning.
Also, I am continuing to monitor the potential for a major Nor'easter for New Years Eve, and Day, which could result in considerable snowfall accumulation across portions of the Northeastern United States, and particularly Northern New England, at current indications. Things will likely change, and a more detailed report will be issued tomorrow afternoon or evening. Stay tuned.
