Strong To Damaging Winds To Effect The Area Overnight Into Saturday Afternoon





Champlain Valley Weather Discussion:
     The National Weather Service in Burlington, Vermont has issued a Wind Advisory from tonight through Saturday evening for strong winds ranging from 25-35MPH with gusts to 50MPH. Champlain Valley Weather has issued a High Wind Warning for the Northern Champlain Valley for sustained winds of 25-35MPH with occasional gusts up to 60MPH, especially in wind prone areas closer to lake Champlain. Champlain Valley Weather has also issued a wind advisory for the remainder of the Champlain Valley, and the Western Slopes of the Green mountains for winds in the 15-30MPH range with gusts up to 50MPH. Some areas in the Advisory portion of the Champlain Valley could see localized gusts to 55MPH.
     Currently across the area right now, sustained winds are ranging from 10-15MPH with gusts in the 20-25MPH, however some localized areas further north, and closer to lake Champlain are experiencing stronger winds. Swanton Village is currently reporting sustained winds of 20MPH with gusts to 38MPH. In Highgate winds are sustained at 17MPH with gusts to 33MPH. In Burlington, winds are sustained at 14MPH with gusts to 30MPH. In Plattsburgh winds are Sustained at 15MPH with gusts to 28MPH.
     In the Warning area, winds should continue to increase overnight, in to the 25-35MPH range, with isolated gusts up to 60MPH especially in areas such as Alburgh, Swanton, Highgate, St. Albans, Georgia, Milton, Plattsburgh, and Rouses point, by Saturday Morning. Winds of this magnitude will cause tree damage, power outages, and the possibility of some minor structural damage. Travel will be difficult for high profile vehicles such as SUV's, Semi-Trailers, and other larger vehicles.
     In the Advisory area winds should continue to increase into the 15-30MPH with gusts up to 50MPH. Areas closer to the lake such as Westport, Willsboro, Charlotte, and Shoreham could experience isolated wind gusts up to 55MPH, by Saturday Morning. Winds of this magnitude will cause tree limbs to break, and perhaps some isolated power outages. Travel could become difficult for high profile vehicles. Stay tuned for further updates!
