Champlain Valley Weather Discussion:
OVERVIEW
High pressure near the region has resulted in a temperature inversion, and trapping of low level moisture, resulting in light freezing rain and freezing drizzle.
ICING
A nasty inversion has setup across the region, trapping low level moisture all the way from central New York, up and across Vermont. This low level moisture is falling in the form of primarily freezing drizzle, but some more intense pockets of moisture have been resulting in light freezing rain. Along with this light freezing rain/ freezing drizzle is some flurries, and sleet pellets. The primary form of precipitation today though will be light freezing rain/ freezing drizzle. Enough of this freezing precipitation should fall throughout the day to result in up to 1 tenth of an inch of ice accumulation, especially from the Western slopes of the Green mountains and points west to the St. Lawrence River Valley in New York. While road crews should be able to keep up with this, icy spots on roads are still likely. The most icy areas will be untreated secondary roads, driveways, and sidewalks. The precipitation should tapper off by later this afternoon. Stay tuned for any further updates.
