Accumulating Snow Overnight Into Wednesday Afternoon

Champlain Valley Weather Discussion:
Everything remains on track for the most part. Frequent snow showers are moving in from the north, resulting in some occasionally moderate snow. Most moderate bursts are brief. Right now I don't have many reports of snow accumulation, but in Richford snow is falling lightly with three quarters of an inch of snow, in Swanton Village light snow is falling with around a quarter inch of snow so far. Snow showers should continue on and off, with occasional moderate to perhaps heavy bursts.

Weather models at this time are still having some trouble dealing with the system, however the NAM model has picked up on the potential for snow across Northern Vermont, and New York. Infact the most recent run of the NAM model with snow ratios in the 20:1 range indicate the potential for 4-8 inches of snow across Eastern Franklin County, and Western Orleans County. Conditions will continue to be monitored. If heavier snow accumulations around 6+ inches become likely then a Winter Storm Warning may have to be issued for those areas. At this time though I feel advisories will cover this system just fine. Radar trends from Canada though, do show some strong moisture starting to push south. This will be monitored closely.

Total snow accumulations by Wednesday afternoon should remain 1-3 inches for the Central and Southern Champlain Valley, 1-3 inches within 10 miles of the lake shore across the Northern Champlain Valley (on the Vermont side), and 3-6 inches for the far Eastern Champlain Valley, and Western Slopes of the Green mountains of Northern, and Central Vermont. I have thus continued my winter weather advisory for Franklin, Orleans, and Lamoille Counties, and have now added Eastern Chittenden, and Eastern Addison Counties to the list, as current observations indicate that snow is pushed a little further south then originally expected.

There remains no OFFICIAL alerts in effect from the National Weather Service, although there was some brief talk about the potential for some advisories in the afternoon package, but they feel its only very marginal, and no need to issue any alerts at this time. Stay tuned for any further updates!
