Unexpected Strong Winds

Champlain Valley Weather Discussion:
Champlain Valley Weather has issued a Wind Advisory for portions of extreme Northwestern Vermont, Until 2:00AM, for isolated wind gusts of 45-50MPH.
Strong southerly winds are ongoing at this hour. The strongest winds at this time are in the Northern Champlain Valley, where southerly winds are generally the strongest. A fairly tight pressure gradient between low pressure over Hudson bay in Canada, and High Pressure along the Eastern Seaboard is the cause of these winds. The winds are actually mixing down to the ground nicely, and as always in the Champlain Valley the southerly winds are being funneled through the valley. Currently in Burlington, Vermont sustained winds are 16MPH with gusts to 40MPH, at the Champlain Country Club in the Southern portions of Swanton, winds are sustained at 18MPH, with gusts to 33MPH. They had a max gust to 37MPH at 8:46PM. In Swanton Village, winds are sustained at 18MPH with gusts to 28MPH. There was a max gust of 32MPH at 9:05PM. At Colchester Reef on Lake Champlain winds were sustained at 37MPH, with gusts to 40MPH.
What to expect for the rest of the night is continued strong winds, in the 15-25MPH range, and isolated gusts in the 45-50MPH range, the areas most likely to see these isolated winds gusts are Burlington, Swanton, Georgia, Alburgh, Grand Isle, and Milton, and especially people who live close to the lake shore. Winds should be strongest over the next few hours, and then begin to gradual weaken. Wind gusts of this magnitude could cause some tree branches to break resulting in isolated power outages. Use caution while driving, especially if you have a high profile vehicle such as an SUV, or Truck.
