Champlain Valley Weather Discussion:
Some unexpected significant rainfall has occurred today, across much of the Northern half of Vermont. Widespread rainfall amounts of 0.5 - 1.5 inches of rain has fallen since 3 or 4AM. This will result in some rising of area waterways, but no significant flooding should occur from this. The biggest concern is for poor drainage, and low land flooding. Some isolated instances of small stream flooding may occur, but nothing widespread. Below is a short list of some rainfall totals from the rain that we received from this morning only. Not from yesterdays showers.
Rainfall Totals (as of 12:20PM):
Elmore: 1.33"
Hyde Park: 1.22"
Berkshire: 1.19"
Jay Peak: 1.01"
Westford: 0.74"
Swanton Village: 0.67"
Winooski: 0.54"
Beekmantown: 0.41"
Grand Isle: 0.36"
For the rest of today rain will continue to slowly diminish, and become more showery in nature. The area of most concern over the next couple of hours is the Western Slopes/ Spine of the Green Mountains, as the rain axis moving slowly east, and good moisture inflow moving from the east to west are causing some strong convergence over the spine of the green mountains now. That in mind, the green mountain also help cause lift, due to there orographical nature. This will have to be monitored throughout the next several hours. Stay tuned for further updates.
